SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) -- It’s been nearly one year since Hurricanes Helene and Milton devastated parts of Sarasota County.

On Monday, emergency management officials reflected on the recovery and the lessons learned after the historic 2024 hurricane season.

Helene made landfall on September 26, 2024, bringing a record storm surge that left businesses, homes, and vehicles under several feet of water.

Just days later, on Oct. 9, Hurricane Milton followed, causing more flooding, debris, widespread power outages, and one of the largest evacuations in county history.

Nearly a year later, Sarasota County Emergency Management officials said recovery is still ongoing.
