A woman from North Texas was arrested on an arson charge for allegedly setting a fire and leaving a "hateful" message outside an El Paso church, police officials said.

Marynka Zarina Marquez, 35, of Denton, Texas, is accused of an arson attempt shortly before midnight on Sept. 17 at Beth El Bible Church, an evangelical Christian church at 6440 Montana Ave. in East-Central El Paso, stated a news release by police spokesman Officer Adrian Cisneros issued on Monday, Sept. 22.

Though police have not disclosed a specific motive, the attempted arson occurred the night before a vigil for conservative activist Charlie Kirk took place at the church on Thursday, Sept. 18.
