Monica Cannon-Grant, the Boston community activist who faces federal fraud charges, changed her plea to guilty on 18 criminal counts on Monday.
Monica Cannon-Grant and her husband, Clark Grant, of Taunton, were indicted on federal charges in 2022 . The two were founders of Violence in Boston, a nonprofit formally established in 2017 with the stated purpose of reducing violence, raising social awareness and aiding community causes in Boston.
The case against them involved a series of alleged schemes designed to defraud the nonprofit and its donors, the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance and a mortgage lending business based in Chicago, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. Charges included fraud, conspiracy and making false statements to a mortgage lending business
