HOUSTON —

Two people from Kentucky and Indiana have been selected as part of NASA's newest astronaut class.

On Monday, NASA introduced its 10 newest astronaut candidates after selecting them from more than 8,000 applicants nationwide.

Among them are Yuri Kubo of Columbus, Indiana, and Erin Overcash of Goshen, Kentucky.

Kubo, 40, brings more than a decade of experience at SpaceX, where he worked in roles ranging from a launch director for Falcon 9 rocket launches to the director of avionics for the Starshield program.

Overcash, 34, is a decorated U.S. Navy lieutenant commander and test pilot.

The Goshen native has logged more than 1,300 flight hours in 20 aircraft, including 249 carrier arrested landings.
