LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Arson Bureau (LMAB) started its investigation into a tank explosion at the AAK plant in Shively on Sunday.

The Shively Fire Department originally responded to the explosion on shortly after 12:30 p.m., receiving multiple calls for the blast and the person injured by it.

Firefighters found that person died in the blast after arriving.

The department said the explosion "occurred from a hydrogen tank conversion process."

Parts of the plant shut down in response, but the company was not specific about which ones.

AAK makes vegetable oil, among other vegetable-derived fats.

Last year, on Dec. 16, Shively Fire determined a hydrogen leak coincided with another conversion tank issue.
