After advocacy groups said some ICE detainees at the 'Louisiana Lockup' were on a hunger strike to protest inhumane conditions, state and federal officials have denied that the strike happened or the conditions were dangerous.
The Southeast Dignity Not Detention Coalition and the National Immigration Project on Saturday said that detainees had started the strike last week, protesting what they said was a lack of medical care and basic hygiene projects. In a statement Monday afternoon, the Department of Public Safety & Corrections denied the allegations.
