Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and the leaders of nine other Western countries, have formally told the UN their nations now recognise a Palestinian state after refusing to do so for decades.
It means the number of countries that now recognise Palestine has grown to at least 157 of 193 UN member states.
The historic move attracted fresh criticism from the White House, which said it represented "more talk and not enough action from some of our friends and allies".
But so far, threats of American retaliation have been limited to a relatively small group of Republican politicians, after US President Donald Trump effectively agreed to disagree with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on his recent visit to England.
