LEWISTON, Minn.- The City of Lewiston broke ground on a new Public Safety building for police, fire and ambulance services on Monday, Sept. 22.

Ragini Varma, city administrator, says plans have been developing to build a joint facility like this on the site of the city's current fire and ambulance facility for around two decades.

She says up until now the issue has always been a lack of funding.

The project is currently estimated to cost $3.4 million, with the city making an initial down payment of $1.06 million.

She says it will be repaying the rest in smaller increments over the next 30 years.

By housing all 3 services in the same building, she says each department will be able to have more space for equipment and other improvements.
