MADISON, Wis. — A new homeless shelter on Madison's east side is nearing completion with construction expected to finish in early 2026, but the facility still needs more than $4 million to operate as the city's first 24-hour, year-round homeless shelter.

Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway toured the nearly completed building today and outlined the financial challenges ahead for the project that could transform how Madison addresses homelessness.

"We must unlock that potential. That means coming up with more than $4 million that it will take to operate this shelter 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year," Rhodes-Conway said during the site visit.
