BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Federal funds for homeless outreach at the Charles R. Kelly Community Center run dry this year, leaving Councilman Darryl Hurst with an $80,000 hole to fill. Four community partners have stepped up until the city-parish can coordinate backfilling those dollars.

Chef Jon Breaux, founder of the Three O’Clock Project, is turning surplus food from grocery stores into meals for those in need, embodying the spirit of community collaboration. “Opening up your eyes and your heart and meeting people where they’re at instead of judgment,” Breaux said.

For those served, the impact is profound. “I can comprehend better because I’m not worried about what I’m going to eat, if I’m going to go find another job. It’s been so beneficial,” one recipient said.
