Scattered showers soaked portions of the Phoenix metro during the early morning hours Sept. 22, but forecasts show the area will dry out over the next few days before thunderstorm chances return by the end of the week.

About .04 of an inch of rain fell in Alhambra, Paradise Valley and New River, according to rain gauges in those areas monitored by the Maricopa County Flood Control District.

Rain gauges in Mesa, Tolleson and Avondale recorded .04 of an inch as well. A rain gauge in Guadalupe showed .12 of an inch. No major public safety incidents were reported.

"Mainly dry conditions will prevail through the middle of the week before a low-pressure system brings increased shower and thunderstorm chances by the end of the week," according to a National Weather Service forecast report for
