SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) -- Spartanburg City Council voted to tear down and move the clock tower during a meeting on Monday night.

The clock tower was initially set to be moved later this year to make room for a streetscaping project along with a new hotel and mixed-use development that start construction this fall.
The council voted 4-2 to move the iconic tower, which has sat in the heart of downtown since October 1989.
