A NSW Police officer has been charged with assault over the arrest of former Greens candidate Hannah Thomas at an anti-Israel demonstration in June, as new court documents reveal officers were told to show “no tolerance” to protesters on the morning of the rally.

Police confirmed on Tuesday that a 33-year-old senior constable attached to a specialist command in south-west Sydney had been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in relation to Thomas’ arrest on June 27.

The officer, whose employment is now under review, is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court next month.
