Authorities in Limestone County arrested an Athens man accused of trying to solicit sex from a child.

According to the Limestone County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened in the early morning hours of Sept. 14.

The sheriff's office says the child immediately informed their parents who then contacted the Limestone County Sheriff's Office. Deputies say they reviewed disturbing messages sent by the suspect over social media.

Deputies arrested Bobby Joe Raney, 65, in connection with the incident. Investigators believe Raney may have contacted additional individuals in the community. The sheriff's office is urging parents to remain vigilant in monitoring their children's devices and social media accounts.
