District struggling with low enrollment despite being one of Texas’ best districts

Coppell ISD has named Town Center Elementary as a campus that may close next year to help narrow an $8 million budget gap, and it’s not the only school impacted.

New Tech High School, a specialized campus focused on project-based learning, would move from its current building and be housed within Coppell High School. The district said Coppell High has the space to accommodate New Tech’s 200-plus students, noting there are currently too many teachers for the enrollment.

Town Center Elementary has about 400 students who would be moved to other campuses in the district. The possible changes would save about $1.3 million in payroll and $2.8 million overall.
