KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knox County leaders are working to implement a new unified development ordinance as the last part of the Advance Knox plan, encouraging development across the county.

The plan promotes mixed housing, improving roads and infrastructure.

Consultants said several misalignments exist, including place, type and zoning districts, parking and protecting natural treasures.

"Existing regulations don't afford much protection when it comes to natural and cultural resources in the county, so that's certainly a misalignment with planned goals," Allison Mouch, a consultant with Orion Planning & Design, said.

Leaders said the next steps include a nine-month timeline to come up with a draft, plus feedback sessions for people who live in Knox County.
