OLDHAM COUNTY, Ky. —
A Bible education program called LifeWise is seeking permission to offer off-campus religious instruction to Oldham County Schools students during the school day. People spoke to the school board on Monday as the district considers the proposal.
Under Kentucky’s Senate Bill 19 , districts may excuse students for up to one hour per week for voluntary moral instruction that occurs off campus and requires parental consent. LifeWise representatives say they hope the program will begin with third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students at Locust Grove Elementary, with the possibility of expanding to other grades if approved.
