Donald Trump has claimed there is a link between autism and women taking paracetamol in pregnancy – and that the condition can be improved with a cancer medicine that is not approved for autism.
But numerous experts have said there is no good evidence to support either of these ideas. So, what is the basis for the claims, and how much faith should parents and pregnant women place in them?
Speaking from the White House, alongside his health secretary Robert F Kennedy, the US president said there had been a “meteoric rise” in cases of autism and urged pregnant women not to take Tylenol – which is called paracetamol in the UK.
