LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A slow-speed chase in Los Feliz Monday night took a bizarre and dramatic turn when the suspect drove over several spike strips, fleeing on shredded tires and escaping a police PIT maneuver.
The chase ended in a lengthy standoff near Los Feliz Boulevard and Serrano Avenue when Los Angeles police slammed into the suspect's SUV a second time and disabled it.
Police forced the driver out of the car around 11 p.m. after officers deployed tear gas inside the vehicle. The suspect was on the ground when multiple officers swarmed him and took him into custody.
During the pursuit, the SUV drove over about six spike strips and damaged all four tires. A police cruiser also performed a PIT maneuver on Hollywood and Harvard boulevards, but the driver was able to continue fl
