GAYLORD — A combination of last March's ice storm and some rainy, chilly weather in the spring initially held back tourism in Northern Michigan. But most areas finished the peak Memorial Day to Labor Day season strong and anticipate a solid fall and winter seasons.
Michigan’s tourism industry generated $54.8 billion in economic impact in 2024, according to a study released by Travel Michigan, part of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and tourism represents a key component of the Northern Michigan economy.
Amanda Wilkin, the executive director of Visit Charlevoix, said the final numbers for the full summer season aren't in yet, but overall it was steady compared to last year.
