LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Monday was the deadline set by the federal government for Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen to hand over all its voter registration data , and the nonprofit Common Cause Nebraska is now filing a lawsuit to stop that from happening.

On Sept 8., the Department of Justice sent a letter to Evnen’s office requesting personal information on voters such as addresses, drivers license numbers and the last four digits of social security numbers.

Voting rights advocates say while some of that information is easily accessible, some of it is not, and giving it up would put Nebraskans’ privacy at risk.
