Through a coordinated effort between the district, local farmers, and nonprofit Mountain Roots Education, the students in Teton School District are dining on homegrown, organic goods from local farms the school has been purchasing for the past few weeks.

Mountain Roots Executive Director Hayes Swinney met TSD401 Food Service Director Jami Myers on the school’s wellness committee nearly three years ago, and they started down the path of getting the school gardens’ produce into the school lunches and even more extensively, fresh, local produce into more of the menu items.

The craze for carrots picked up last year when Teton Full Circle Farm donated 200 pounds of carrots to the district they weren’t going to harvest. The students fell in love with the sweet, crisp crop Mountain Roots droppe
