In a bizarre incident a Bangladeshi infiltrator in jail custody for a long time today tried to commit suicide by slashing at his throat with a piece of tin he had torn off the wall of the police vehicle in which he was being taken to court in Sonamura. He however survived and is under treatment in Sonamura community health centre in a critical condition.

Police sources from Sonamura said that Kamrul Mia (38), originally a resident of Purobari village under Comilla district in Bangladesh, had been arrested from Telkajla area in the year 2023 and was in jail custody as per court order. He was being brought this morning to court from Sonamura jail but on the way he had torn off piece of tin from the sidewall of the police vehicle and slashed at his throat as part of an attempt to commit suic
