In a significant move to uphold religious traditions, the Varanasi Municipal Corporation has announced that all meat and fish shops within the city limits will remain closed throughout the nine-day Navratri festival. This decision, issued by Mayor Ashok Tiwari, aims to respect the religious sentiments of the predominantly Hindu population during this auspicious period.
The directive encompasses all establishments selling meat, including poultry and fish, as well as slaughterhouses. To ensure compliance, Veterinary Officer Dr. Santosh Pal has been appointed to conduct regular inspections across the city. Vendors found violating the order will face penalties as per municipal regulations.
This measure aligns with similar restrictions observed in Uttar Pradesh during major Hindu festivals. E
