PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Police are investigating after finding a body near a canal in Phoenix on Monday.

Around 11:45 a.m., officers responded to the call near 36th and Portland streets for reports of a body. When they arrived on the scene, witnesses showed them where the dead man was.

Officers say the body was in the beginning stages of decomposition and had obvious signs of trauma. The victim has not been identified.

Detectives surveyed the area and talked to residents in the neighborhood to gain information on what could have led up to this homicide. They are still waiting for the results of the autopsy.
