AFL Rising Star winner Murphy Reid has declared being drafted to Fremantle is the best thing that has ever happened in his life after he was rewarded for his stellar debut season on Monday night.
Reid polled 48 votes to win the Rising Star by 13 votes from Adelaide’s Daniel Curtin. Nine of the 10 judges voted him as the best player, with Nathan Buckley selecting Curtin and Melbourne’s Harvey Langford ahead of him.
Fremantle pounced on draft night, selecting Reid at pick 17 after he slipped down the order. That meant he had to move interstate from Victoria but Reid said it helped him to become a better player.
