On April 24, 2020, the insurance company cancelled the policy without his consent.

The Mizoram State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (Mizoram State Consumer Court) has directed National Insurance Company to pay Rs 5,00,000 (five lakh rupees) to ZD Lalremthanga whose insurance policy was cancelled without his consent and the premium amount not refunded to him.

This led to a lot of inconvenience for Lalremthanga who had filed for a claim against his damaged house but was denied the money as his policy was no longer there.

ZD Lalremthanga who hails from Vaivakawn in Aizawl district, had insured his house and on September 9, 2019, due to heavy damage, he purchased a Standard Fire & Special Perils insurance policy from National Insurance Company for Rs 1,00,00,000 (one crore rupees) by
