Following Season 48 in which a University of Michigan graduate claimed $1 million, a new season of " Survivor " kicks off this week with a fresh group of players ready to "outwit, outplay, and outlast" the others to claim the top prize in Fiji's unforgiving climate.

On Wednesday, Sept. 24, Emmy-Award winning host, Jeff Probst will welcome 18 new players for the 49th season to compete for $1 million.

"Nearly 25 years since it first premiered, 'Survivor' continues to be the ultimate test of stamina and will as a fresh group of castaways begins the adventure of a lifetime when they’re stranded on the islands of Fiji," CBS says. "These diverse competitors are armed with fresh perspectives and a fervent passion for the game."
