A New Orleans woman is scheduled to head to trial on Nov. 17 in the killing two 17-year-old girls after authorities say she crashed into their vehicle while fleeing law enforcement after she was caught shoplifting at Lakeside mall in Metairie, court records show.
Joneaka Smooth, 31, is charged with two counts of manslaughter, one count of attempted manslaughter and obstruction of justice in Orleans Parish.
Smooth is accused in the deaths of Giselle Smith and Semaj Morris , who were best friends and seniors at West Jefferson High School in Harvey. Giselle's older sister was also critically injured in crash, which occurred Dec. 11, 2024.
In Jefferson Parish, prosecutors last week filed a new charge against one of Smooth's accused co-conspirators in the shoplifting: Sherry Foucha
