An MP is demanding action against excessive numbers of houses of multiple occupancy (HMOs).

Naushabah Khan (Lab), representing Gillingham and Rainham, has penned a letter to Medway Council's chief planning officer, Dave Harris, urging the authority to take immediate measures.

She argues that far too many HMOs are being approved in Gillingham and cautions that the existing system risks undermining community cohesion whilst permanently altering neighbourhood character.

Rising litter, noise pollution and pressure on already strained public services are amongst her key worries.
