Green Party Leader Elizabeth May has mused about either stepping down from her role or leaving politics altogether on several occasions. Most of her threats, which may also be cries for attention, quickly dissipated. At one point, she did step down as party leader, but after Annamie Paul’s ill-fated tenure came and went, May resumed her former position.

Then, last month, May announced that she wasn’t going to lead the Greens into the next federal election. “My voice, as the sole Green MP in the House of Commons, is stronger as leader. I intend to grow our parliamentary caucus before stepping down,” she wrote in an email.
