FORMER NFL running back Rudi Johnson has died at age 45.

TMZ reports that the ex-Cincinnati Bengals star passed this week.

The report in TMZ quoted a family source.

A cause of death was not provided.

Johnson played in the NFL from 2001 to 2008 after being a fourth-round Draft pick.

He was selected out of Auburn and spent the majority of his career with the Bengals.

Johnson played for the Bengals from 2001 to 2007 and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2004.

He finished his pro career after a season with the Detroit Lions in 2008.

Tributes poured in for the former NFL star.

"I can't handle this news today," one message on X read. "Rest in peace sir.

"One of my all time favorite players. I'm heartbroken."
