Video shows a bobcat leaping into the air to knock down a bird.

An opportunistic bobcat walking in front of a remote trail camera was captured on video leaping high into the air to knock down a bird.

Footage of the amazing acrobatic maneuver by the bobcat was captured by OC Wild, which is based in Orange County, California, and features trail camera clips of mountain lions in the Santa Ana Mountains.

The trail camera appears to be set up in what looks to be a gully, no doubt a passageway mountain lions use. In this case, however, the camera picked up a different feline.

“Bobcat jumps 8 feet to slap a bird out of midair!!” OC Wild wrote in its Instagram post. “I’ve been following this beautiful momma cat for a few months now. She has 3 baby cubs that are usually with her as well.”

Once the bobcat swatted the bird to the ground, it pounced on it for an easy meal, but the cubs were nowhere in sight.

Not surprisingly, the post generated plenty of likes with several comments, including these:

“Spiked the bird like a volleyball.”

“Cats are natural true Ninjas.”

“Cats are just the perfect predators. Their speed, instincts, athleticism and strength are incredible.”

Indeed.

Bobcats are only 2 feet tall and weigh up to 30 pounds, and they are known to have an incredible jumping ability. They can easily jump a 6-foot fence and are able to jump as high as 12 feet, according to the Arizona Department of Game and Fish.
