Don’t be alarmed if you see parts of the Paw Paw River appear pink or red this week. Officials are preparing for a sea lamprey treatment.

The Great Lakes Fishery Commission says a harmless dye will be released into the river between September 23 and 27. The discoloration is temporary and safe. Officials say the dye is part of efforts to control invasive sea lamprey, with treatment scheduled through October 2.

According to state invasive species officials, sea lamprey have a high reproductive potential, a lack of predators, and an ideal habitat in Michigan waters.
