LAKE COUNTY, Mich. — A Lake County woman learned Monday she will spend at least the next 20 years in prison after murdering her husband.

Betsy K. McIntyre, 69, of Irons, pleaded guilty in August to the second-degree murder of her husband.

McIntyre stabbed her husband 14 times on May 11, 2025, killing him. She was initially charged with first-degree murder, but that charge was later dropped in a plea deal that included the lesser charge of second-degree murder and a sentencing recommendation of 20 to 40 years in prison.

Lake County Probate Judge David Glancy in the 27th Circuit Court sentenced McIntyre to the recommended 20 to 40 years in prison.
