OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - Green River District Health Department officials are urging residents to take precautions against mosquito bites after confirmed cases of West Nile Virus have been reported across 40 states, including Kentucky.

So far this year, the CCDC has reported six cases in Kentucky, including three in the Green River District, two in Daviess County and one in Henderson County.

In many cases, people infected with West Nile Virus show no symptoms or only mild illness.

Health experts say common symptoms include fever, headache, body aches, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea or rash.

They say people over 50 and those with underlying medical conditions are at higher risk for serious illness.
