A young woman suffered a serious injury as she was robbed and assaulted off Connecticut Avenue NW near the University of the District of Columbia campus early Tuesday, authorities say.

News4 video shows a heavy police presence near the trail off UDC’s campus and Connecticut Avenue.

Police say they responded just after 6 a.m. The Secret Service could be seen in the area too. An area toward the trail was blocked by police tape.

People in the area said they were upset to hear of the assault.

The victim is expected to survive her injuries. No information on any suspect or suspects was immediately released.
