A band of rain has been forecast to sweep across the UK this weekend, resulting in a wet day for parts of the country on Saturday (September 27).

It comes as the autumn equinox arrives, bringing a "seasonal shift" to the UK, according to the Met Office . This week, the UK is experiencing mostly dry weather as high pressure is taking control, but this is set to change by the weekend.

The autumn equinox signals the official start of astronomical autumn, and this year it has brought with it cooler weather. Sunday night saw temperatures below freezing, with Scotland recording a low of -2.1C.
