KENT, Ohio (WJW) – Due to a FirstEnergy power outage affecting Kent State University, the Kent campus is now closed Tuesday.

The power outages in the area started early in the morning, and as of 11:45 a.m., Portage County and Summit County had nearly 7,000 outages.

Kent State sent an alert to students and staff just after 7 a.m., saying classes scheduled to meet before 10 a.m. would be delayed.

By 10 a.m., the university said on its website that it was closing the entire campus and that "only essential personnel should report. Students are advised to check with their professors regarding remote learning options."

Most of the power was restored by 9:30 a.m. Check the FirstEnergy outage map.
