Hours after stepping down as India A captain and leaving the Lucknow camp midway through the red-ball series against Australia A, Shreyas Iyer has reportedly written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seeking a break from the longer format. PTI reports that Iyer has asked not to be considered for Test matches for the time being, citing physical concerns that resurfaced during the first unofficial Test.

Iyer has informed the board that he cannot remain on the field for more than four days at a stretch. During last season's Ranji Trophy, he managed by taking short breaks, but such flexibility is not feasible in Test matches or India A fixtures. Confronted with these recurring issues, he has decided to step away from the longer format until he is fully fit.
