WHEN Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) was faced with the surrender of 67 dogs earlier this year, the team at Torquay Coles rallied behind the organisation.
In the aftermath of the unexpected surrender, the Torquay community came together to donate essential supplies for the rescued animals including food, blankets, bedding and toys. Since the initial donation, Torquay Coles has committed to making the donations a regular initiative.
GAWS chief executive officer Helen Cocks said this kind of support has a direct and meaningful impact and helps offset the daily costs involved in rescuing animals.
“It costs an average of $65 a day to care for just one animal at GAWS, and with up to 300 animals in our care at any given time, these costs quickly add up.
