A petting zoo of pages stands out among the party offerings of Saturday’s Beats, Bites and Books Festival to celebrate 1,000 little free libraries across Greater Victoria.

The Placemaking Network’s Pocket Places Project, led by volunteer Teale Phelps Bondaroff, maps, promotes, stocks, and helps build the little libraries across the Capital Regional District. To date, the project has delivered more than 128,000 books.

The Sept. 20 event at Oaklands Community Centre featured a little free library petting zoo where people could see examples of the book boxes from around the region; crafts and a cozy reading circle for kids; information tables from a number of local organizations, including the Greater Victoria Public Library and Victoria Literacy Connection; a free book pickup; and live mus
