At least nine people died due to electrocution in Kolkata and its suburbs after heavy rains lashed the city on Monday night (September 22, 2025) and the early hours of Tuesday (September 23, 2025) due to a low pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal.

The city received about 247. 5 mm rainfall in 24 hours till 6.30 a.m. on Tuesday (September 23, 2025), leading to waterlogging in several neighbourhoods. Suburban railway and metro services were disrupted as normal life came to a standstill in the city, just days before Durga Puja festivities are set to begin.
