SenLinYu's debut novel "Alchemised" is officially here, a publishing journey nearly seven years in the making.

Like many popular books, "Alchemised" has its roots in fan fiction. But unlike many, the "Harry Potter" fan fiction that inspired it all was a mega hit in its own right.

" Manacled," written by an author who goes by SenLinYu , was a more than 370,000-word story that was first published on Archive of Our Own, an open source fan fiction hub, in 2018. The story had more than 84,000 likes on the site, as well at least 71,000 ratings on Goodreads. And in bookish corners of the internet like BookTok, #Manacled has racked up hundreds of thousands of views.
