Burlington police have named the man accused of provoking a standoff that closed Riverside Avenue Sept. 21 and ended with a shooting.
After nine hours of negotiations from an apartment complex, Aaron Loucks, 32, was forced out with tear gas, city police said in court records.
It was outside the residence, according to the Burlington Police Officers' Association , that an officer had a "critical encounter" with a person whose alleged actions matched those of Loucks. That encounter appeared to be a shooting described by Vermont State Police in a Monday alert. Troopers said that a Burlington Police Department officer shot at a man at the end of the standoff.
