"Baywatch" is sprinting back to California beaches with a modern Fox Television Network reboot. By Neptune, there will be lifeguards in red swimsuits and slow-motion running on glorious SoCal beaches.
Fox announced the 12-episode first season of "Baywatch" starting in 2026, in a Sept. 23 statement. The new series carries on from the famed "Baywatch" that made superstars of David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra while launching the careers of Yasmine Bleeth and Jason Momoa. Before that beach party ended in 1999, the original "Baywatch" was reaching more than a billion viewers weekly in 200 countries.
No stars have yet been revealed for the revival series. The new executive producers include Michael Berk, Greg Bonann and Doug Schwartz, who were co-creators and producers of the original "Baywatch."
"Fans can expect all the adrenaline-fueled rescues, tangled relationships, complicated chemistry and beachside heroics that defined the original," the Fox release states, promising an environmental angle "with an entirely new cast, contemporary trappings, tensions and challenges, and a renewed mission to protect Southern California’s shoreline."
Hollywood has tried "Baywatch" reboots. The 2017 "Baywatch" movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron opened to poor reviews and never returned to the beach.
When does the new Fox 'Baywatch' start?
The new "Baywatch" splashes onto TV's for Fox's 2026-27 season. Specific dates have not yet been announced.
