CONEY ISLAND — AN ELDERLY WOMAN, Galina Smirnova, 95, has been charged with murder in the violent death of her 89-year-old roommate, Nina Kravitsov, at a Coney Island nursing home, according to News12 Brooklyn.

Authorities allege Smirnova fatally bludgeoned Kravitsov with a wheelchair footrest on Sept. 14. Staff found Kravitsov with severe head injuries and Smirnova in the bathroom with blood on her gown and legs. A bloodied footrest was discovered nearby. Kravitsov later died at NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn.

Smirnova, who prosecutors say has dementia, is being held in custody. News12 reports that the victim was a Holocaust survivor.
