CHICAGO — Expanded bike lanes are allowing more people to travel around Chicago.

The city will soon have more than 500 miles of bikeways, from paths in the parks to protected lanes on the streets.

Mayor Brandon Johnson rode a Divvy bike into a press conference Tuesday, to celebrate 100 miles of bikeways built since he took office just over two years ago.

"We aim to build upon the positive trends that we are experiencing in Chicago over the last recent years. In fact, since 2021 the number of traffic fatalities in Chicago has decreased by about 30%, even as traffic volumes picked back up after the COVID-19 pandemic," Johnson said.
