For the 10th time since 2019, the New York Giants will trot out a new quarterback to make his first start with the team.
According to multiple reports, the Giants plan to bench Russell Wilson and have rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart make his first career start in a Week 4 game against the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers. When he takes the field on Sunday, Dart will become the 10th different starting quarterback for Big Blue since Eli Manning's final season.
He'll also be the third rookie to be making his first career start for the Giants in that span.
Daniel Jones, now the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, was the first. He made his debut as the first starting quarterback of the post-Manning era in 2019. Tommy DeVito, now with the New England Patriots, was the second. The former undrafted free agent made his first start in Week 10 of the 2023 season.
Dart will be the second Giants quarterback to make a start in 2025 and also the second rookie quarterback to start this season. Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and the only other quarterback selected in the first round, has been the Titans' starter since Week 1.
The Giants are hoping Dart's starting debut will be just the first of many to come, putting a stop to the long-spinning quarterback carousel that included nine other starters before him and after Manning.
Here's who those nine other starters were:
Giants starting quarterbacks since Eli Manning
Daniel Jones: 2019-2024 | 69 starts
Jones' tenure with the Giants was shaky at best and an outright disaster at worst. The now-Colts starter took over from Manning in 2019. He dealt with several injuries in his first three seasons and struggled with a lack of pass-catching weapons in the wake of New York's trade of star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns in 2018.
In 2022, current head coach Brian Daboll took over and seemed to turn Jones in the right direction. The quarterback threw more yards and fewer interceptions than he had in any season of his career and even clinched a playoff berth and won a postseason game on the road – the Giants' first playoff win since Super Bowl 46.
It was enough to convince general manager Joe Schoen to sign Jones to a four-year, $160 million extension ahead of the 2023 season. Jones only played one and a half seasons on his new deal before poor play led to his benching and eventual release last year.
Colt McCoy: 2020 | 2 starts
McCoy appeared in four games for the Giants in the back half of the 2020 season as Jones dealt with a hamstring injury. Two of those four appearances were starts, and McCoy went 1-1 in those two games. His Week 13 win over the Seattle Seahawks was his first win in a start since 2014, when he led Washington to an overtime victory against the Dallas Cowboys.
Mike Glennon: 2021 | 4 starts
The four starts Glennon made for the Giants in relief of an injured Jones were the final four starts of his career. He had a 53.9% completion rate with 790 yards and four touchdowns to 10 interceptions in six games with New York.
Jake Fromm: 2021 | 2 starts
The former Georgia quarterback played three games in his NFL career, all for the Giants. Fromm's stat line in his year with the Giants – 27-of-60 (45% completion rate) for 210 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions – is a less notable part of his legacy than a two-play sequence in his second and final start. New York ran two straight quarterback sneaks with Fromm under center: the first on 2nd-and-11 from its own 2-yard line and the second on 3rd-and-9 from its own 4.
Davis Webb: 2022 | 1 start
The Giants originally drafted Webb in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, but he didn't make his first career start until his fifth season and second stint with the team. New York had Webb start its Week 18 game against the Philadelphia Eagles to preserve Jones' health after the team had clinched a playoff spot the week prior.
Webb's sole start was also his last career NFL appearance. He signed on as the Denver Broncos' quarterbacks coach ahead of the 2023 season and took on offensive pass game coordinator duties with the Broncos this season as well.
Tyrod Taylor: 2023 | 5 starts
The 2023 season was Taylor's second as the Giants' backup but his first in which he made any starts. Taylor took over as the starter for the G-Men after Jones suffered a neck injury then a season-ending ACL tear. In five starts, the journeyman compiled a 2-3 record.
Tommy DeVito: 2023-2024 | 8 starts
Three weeks into Taylor's tenure as a starter after Jones' neck injury, the backup-turned-starter sustained a rib injury. DeVito entered in relief in Week 8, then again in Week 9 after Jones' ACL tear. He made his first career start in Week 10 then won three straight games for the Giants before he was eventually benched for Taylor in Week 16.
He made two more starts for New York in 2024 before the Giants waived him at the end of training camp earlier this year. DeVito finished his Giants tenure with a 3-5 record as a starter.
Drew Lock: 2024 | 5 starts
Lock began the 2024 season as the Giants' backup but was supplanted by DeVito after the team benched Jones halfway through the year. He eventually took over starting duties when DeVito sustained a forearm injury in Week 12 then a concussion in Week 15.
The former Broncos second-round pick went 1-4 as a starter. His one win was the best game of his career: a 309-yard, four-touchdown effort against the Colts that included a 73.9% completion rate and zero interceptions.
Russell Wilson: 2025 | 3 starts
The Giants signed Wilson to be their new starter ahead of the 2025 season. In three starts, Wilson went 65-of-110 on pass attempts (a career-low 59.1% completion rate) with 778 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions and an 0-3 record.
Reports emerged Tuesday that the Giants plan to bench Wilson for their rookie, Dart, ahead of Sunday's Week 4 game against the Chargers.
