A Pennsylvania professional soccer team’s captain is accused of using “racially offensive” language against an opponent in an incident that has sparked an investigation by the league.

The allegations stem from a confrontation between Pittsburgh Riverhounds captain Danny Griffin, who is white, and Hartford Athletic FC player Marlon Hairston, who is Black, in a United Soccer League (USL) game on Saturday in Connecticut.

During stoppage time play, Griffin and Hairston had a confrontation after which Hairston claimed to the referees that Griffin had used a racial slur, according to PittsburghSoccerNow.com .

After about 10 minutes discussing the incident, the Hartford team pulled its players and ended the match early, giving Pittsburgh a 2-1 victory.
